MENAFATF — Middle East and North Africa Financial Action Task Force

The regional FATF-style body for the Middle East and North Africa — its country evaluations show how well the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and 18 other members fight money laundering.

Our summary

MENAFATF is the FATF-style regional body (FSRB) for the Middle East and North Africa. Governments of 14 countries set it up at a ministerial meeting in Manama in November 2004, and its headquarters is in Bahrain. Today it has 21 members, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Egypt, Morocco, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain and Jordan. Observers include the FATF, the IMF, the World Bank and several countries.

MENAFATF checks how its members apply the FATF Recommendations through mutual evaluations and follow-up reports, which it publishes on its website. It also publishes typologies reports on regional money laundering and terrorist financing methods, annual reports (the latest covers 2025), and its procedures for the current round of evaluations. The site is available in English and Arabic.

How auditors use it: Read the latest mutual evaluation and follow-up report for each MENA country where the organization operates. Use the ratings to support country risk scores, and use the typologies reports to update red flags and transaction monitoring scenarios.
